Fishing on Lake Syamozero
Syamozero is one of the biggest lakes in southern Karelia and it is very popular with fishermen. Geographical coordinates are 61 degrees 55 minutes, North latitude; 33 degrees 11 minutes East longitude. The common area of the lake - 270, km2; the largest length – 24,6 km; the largest width – 15,1 km. There are 30 islands on the lake. Scenic sides of the lake and its twisted shore line form a lot of gulfs. The shore is covered with fir-tree and mixed forests; there are pine-tree forests on the higher shore of the lake. Only one river – Syapsya – flows out of the lake – thanks to it the lake is connected with the waters of river Shuya. Rivers Malaya Suna, Kivach, Sudak, Kudama and Souda flow into the lake.
The maximum depth of the lake is 24,5 m, the medium depth is 6,7 m. The northern part of it is shallower than the southern one. The lake is rich in fish, there are 21 species of fish here: salmon, white-fish, zander, water-belly, grayling, pike, roach, ide, dace, chub, minnow, bleak, bream, zope, silver bream, mudfish, loach, burbot, scun, ruff, and bullhead. The main trade fishes are zander, bream, white-fish and water-belly.
A lot of wide sand beaches attract tourists to rest in Karelia.

The Syapsya river is located in the southern part of Karelia in the basin of Lake Onega. It is remarkable for a rather small size (34 km), area of water receiving (1 803 km2) and high lake presence (20.4%). River Syapsya connects Lake Vagatozero with Lake Syamozero.

Fishing on River Shuya with transferring
Shuya is a river of the basin of Lake Onega on the South-East of Karelia. It flows on the territories of Suoyarvi, Pryazha and Prionezhie districts of Karelia. The area of the basin is almost 10 100 km². The length is 194 km. It flows out of the Lake Suoyarvi. It flows through two big lakes, Shotozero and Vagatozero, and then flows into Lake Logmozero which has a connection with the Onega lake via a small channel. The main inflows of Shuya are Chalna, Vilga, Kutizhma, Svyatreka, Syapsya, Nyalma, Suoioki, Tarasioki. The river is very popular with tourists.
